The port of Cherbourg is situated at the northern tip of the Cherbourg Peninsula, a leading ferry port on the Western Channel. It is well-known for its high standard and reliability of its services. The port has been an important naval base since the 19th century and acts as a gateway to Normandy and Brittany. It also caters to various sailings around France and to other European countries.

Cherbourg port offers good facilities for passengers such as fast food outlets, tourist information, a newsagent and money changing facilities.

Ferries travel from Cherbourg to Portsmouth and Poole in England and Rosslare in Ireland. Services are operated by three large ferry operators: Brittany Ferries, Irish Ferries, and Celtic Link. Aside from ferries, the port of Cherbourg also welcomes the world-renowned cruise ships the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth.
The port is located in Normandy close to the town centre of Cherbourg, which is a very charming city. With a variety of activities for tourists such as historic buildings, market squares, fish markets and many restaurants, Cherbourg has much to offer its tourists.

Ferry Services


There are three companies operating ferries from the port of Cherbourg: Brittany Ferries, Irish Ferries, and Celtic Link.

Brittany Ferries offers a daily crossing between Cherbourg and Poole in England. The trip on conventional ferries takes 4 hours, 15 minutes, while travelling on Fastcraft takes 2 hours, 15 minutes.

Irish Ferries provides three sailings a week between Cherbourg and Rosslare, Ireland. The journey takes 17 hours.

The new Celtic Link also operates a link between Cherbourg and Rosslare three times a week with a journey time of 18 hours, 30 minutes.
