Port of Cherbourg

Ferries and Ferry Companies Operating
(Cherbourg, Normandy, France)

There are three companies operating crossings from Cherbourg to Poole and Portsmouth in England and Rosslare in Ireland.

Brittany Ferries

Brittany Ferries is a French ferry company that operates ships between France, the UK, Ireland and Spain.

From Cherbourg, the company services routes to Poole and Portsmouth in England.

The Barfleur and Normandie Vitesse are the two ferries which make the crossings, while the Normandie Express is a high speed catamaran.

The Barfleur is a conventional vessel which can cater for 590 cars and 1200 passengers. There are four restaurants and bars and two main shops as well as a children's playroom and reclining seats.

The Normandie Vitesse is also officially known as Condor Vitesse and has been in use since 2001. The high-speed ferry can carry up to 800 passengers with room for 200 cars. Onboard facilities include a café, a bar, reclining seats, a children's playroom, a cinema room and a duty-free shop.

The Normandie Express is a new high speed catamaran operating fast crossings to Portsmouth. It is capable of carrying up to 900 passengers plus 267 cars and is fully equipped with modern facilities including cafés, shops, bars and restaurants.

Irish Ferries

The Normandy, operated by Irish Ferries, sails between Cherbourg and Rosslare three times a week. The ferry boasts excellent onboard facilities for passengers such as several restaurants and bars, Teen Zone, children's area, cinema, Starboard shopping, casino, panorama deck, hair dressing and beauty salon.

Celtic Link

Celtic Link is a new company which began operations in Cherbourg in 2005. The Diplomat makes the crossing to Rosslare in Ireland but it is primarily a freight vessel and therefore may not be suitable for passengers who require special assistance. Facilities onboard include a fully licensed bar and a shop as well as a large widescreen TV showing the latest movies and a Sky Lounge that gives a stunning view of the sea.
